Lauderdale Co., AL (April 23, 2025) – A fatal crash occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Lauderdale County, claiming the life of a Florence man. The incident, reported by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division, took place near the 15-mile marker on Alabama 20, approximately six miles west of Florence.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a 2003 Ford Ranger driven by 55-year-old Christopher K. Calvert collided with a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer, driven by 31-year-old Xavier A. Collings from Biloxi, Mississippi. The impact caused the truck to overturn, and both vehicles sustained significant damage. Christopher Calvert was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders from the Lauderdale County Fire Department and local law enforcement worked together to control the scene, including managing traffic and ensuring the safety of all involved. The injured truck driver, Xavier Collings, was quickly transported to North Alabama Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Authorities confirmed that the crash is still under investigation.
