Injury Car Accidents and Police Chases in Montgomery County
Montgomery County, Alabama, has experienced a notable number of traffic accidents, with 39 fatal accidents and 43 fatalities reported in 2021 alone, including 18 pedestrian deaths. These incidents primarily occurred during daylight hours under clear weather conditions, yet the risk of serious injury or death remains a pressing concern. While safe driving is essential, crashes caused by reckless behavior, including those stemming from high-speed police chases, add a layer of danger on local roadways.
When individuals are injured in a car accident due to a police pursuit, the legal situation becomes complicated. Victims can file personal injury claims against the fleeing driver, but depending on the situation, they may also pursue action against the law enforcement agency involved, particularly if officers violated a no-pursuit policy. However, claims against government entities are often protected by sovereign immunity, making such lawsuits challenging. It is crucial for individuals injured during police chases to seek advice from experienced personal injury attorneys to understand their rights and explore potential legal avenues for compensation.
