Butler County, AL (December 8, 2024) – A fatal car crash occurred on Friday in Butler County, Alabama, resulting in the death of a Florida man. The incident, reported by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), took place at approximately 4:50 p.m. on Interstate 65, about four miles south of Greenville.

According to ALEA, Robert M. Thomas, 77, of Pensacola, Florida, was a passenger in a car that rear-ended another car. The impact caused Thomas to be ejected from the car, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency medical personnel responded promptly to the scene and transported both drivers to the Regional Medical Center of Central Alabama in Greenville for treatment.

The Alabama State Troopers, along with local law enforcement, controlled traffic and ensured the safe extraction of both vehicles. The scene also involved fire department personnel assisting with the removal of the cars and ensuring safety measures were in place.

The ALEA Troopers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Authorities have not released any further details at this time.
