Lee County, AL (December 9, 2024) – A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred early this morning in Lee County, claiming the lives of two individuals and injuring several others. The incident took place near the 3700 block of US Hwy 29 N, also known as West Point Parkway, in Opelika. The crash involved three vehicles, including a bus from Valley Haven School in Valley, Alabama. According to Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton, Corbin Hamby Jr., 49, of Salem, and Tyrone Williams, 53, of Opelika, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) reports that the accident occurred around 6:54 a.m. when Hamby, a passenger on the bus, and Williams, the driver of a Ford F150, were involved in a collision with the bus and another car. The cause of the crash is under investigation by ALEA.

Emergency responders, including ambulances, were on the scene quickly to provide assistance. The victims who survived were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The Opelika Fire Department played a crucial role in extracting individuals from the wreckage. Authorities worked to control traffic and clear the scene, and the northbound lane of US Hwy 29 N near the 194-mile marker was reopened shortly after the incident.
