Jun 4, 2025 | Local Accidents

Mobile, AL (June 4, 2025) – One man was injured in a boating accident Tuesday night, June 3, near the Dauphin Island Bridge in Mobile Co.

The crash happened around 8:50 p.m. when an 18-foot Center Console boat hit a rock barrier. The vessel was carrying two men from Tennessee, Haven Freewill Pomeroy, 36, and Zebediah Eli Basewell, 32.

During the crash, Pomeroy was thrown from the boat. Emergency crews responded and took him to USA Health University Hospital in Mobile for treatment. His current condition is unknown. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Marine Patrol Division is still working to find out what caused the crash.

We send our thoughts and best wishes to the injured and hope for a full recovery.

Boating Accidents in Mobile County

Mobile County’s coastal waters offer beautiful views and recreational opportunities, but boating accidents remain a serious safety concern. Each year, Alabama sees numerous watercraft crashes, many of which result in injuries or worse. These accidents often occur near high-traffic areas such as the Dauphin Island Bridge, where visibility can be limited, and submerged hazards are common.

In many cases, operator error, inattention, or impaired judgment play a role. Collisions with fixed objects like piers, rocks, or bridge supports can lead to severe trauma. Ejections from the vessel, like in the recent Mobile Co. crash, increase the risk of drowning or significant injury. Victims may suffer broken bones, head injuries, spinal trauma, or internal damage, some requiring long-term care.

Victims and their families often face steep medical bills, lost income, and emotional distress following a boating incident. Fortunately, Alabama law allows injured individuals to pursue compensation when another’s negligence contributed to the crash. This can help cover hospital costs, physical therapy, time away from work, and even non-economic damages like pain and suffering.

Legal help is critical during this time. Boat accident cases often involve complex legal issues, including maritime law and multi-party liability. That’s where an experienced personal injury attorney can make a difference.
