Lauderdale County, AL (May 10, 2025) – A deadly two-vehicle collision occurred in the early morning hours of Thursday, May 9, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, leaving one person dead and another injured.
Authorities confirmed the wreck took place around 3 a.m. along Highway 20 near County Road 16. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported that 36-year-old Chad A. Lister, a resident of Franklinton, North Carolina, died at the scene after the truck he was driving collided head-on with a concrete truck. The impact was severe, and Lister did not survive his injuries.
The driver of the concrete truck sustained injuries and was taken to North Alabama Medical Center for additional treatment. Their current condition has not been publicly disclosed.
Following the collision, the area near the crash site was closed off to traffic for several hours as crews worked to clear the roadway and conduct an initial investigation. Delays were reported in the surrounding area. Law enforcement continues to look into the events that led up to the crash.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased victim. We also hope the individual injured in this accident recovers quickly.
Truck Accidents in Alabama
Understanding some common factors behind these incidents is essential. Below are several critical points worth knowing:
- Driver Fatigue: Long hours behind the wheel can result in slowed reaction times or drivers falling asleep. Fatigue continues to be one of the leading causes of commercial truck collisions. Regulations exist to limit hours, but violations still occur.
- Mechanical Failure: Trucks require regular maintenance, and a single malfunction—such as brake failure or a blown tire—can have disastrous consequences. Routine inspections are critical to prevent these types of wrecks.
- Improper Loading: If a trailer is loaded unevenly or beyond its weight capacity, the truck becomes unstable. This can lead to rollovers or loss of control, especially on curves or during sudden stops.
- Blind Spots: Semi-trucks have large blind spots that can hide other vehicles, leading to collisions during lane changes. Drivers are taught to be aware, but accidents still happen when smaller vehicles aren’t seen.
- Inexperienced Drivers: Operating a commercial truck requires training and skill. When companies fail to ensure their drivers are adequately trained, everyone on the road is at greater risk.
