Dothan, AL (April 10, 2025) – A fatal two-car crash occurred Thursday afternoon in Dothan, not far from the Alabama state line. The collision claimed the lives of three children and prompted an emergency response from multiple agencies. The crash happened around 2:00 p.m. on Hwy 79.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a Ford pickup truck driven by a 23-year-old man from Alabama hit the rear of an SUV traveling in the same direction. The SUV, driven by a 24-year-old woman from Georgia, veered off the road along with the pickup, hit a dirt embankment, slammed into a tree, and overturned onto its left side.
Emergency personnel, including local fire departments, paramedics, and law enforcement officers, responded promptly to the scene. They worked to extract the occupants, manage traffic, and provide immediate medical assistance. Two children in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene. A third child, critically injured, was transported by ambulance to Bay Medical Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.
Three additional occupants were in the SUV at the time of the crash—a fourth child and two adults, including the Georgia driver. Their conditions have not yet been released. The Alabama driver of the pickup truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), in coordination with Florida authorities. As of now, no charges have been filed.
Our deepest condolences go out to the families affected by this heartbreaking tragedy.
Fatal Car Accidents in Dothan: A Growing Concern
Dothan has experienced a notable rise in fatal car accidents over recent years, with crashes involving multiple vehicles, young drivers, and pedestrians becoming increasingly common. Although alcohol is not always a contributing factor, other issues such as distracted driving, speeding, and failure to yield continue to pose serious risks on local roads. These incidents often result in devastating outcomes, especially for families traveling with children.
Across Alabama, fatal traffic crashes occur with alarming frequency. A significant number involve drivers under the age of 25, reinforcing concerns about inexperience and risky behavior behind the wheel. In this context, fatal accidents like the recent tragedy near the Florida border serve as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and the long-lasting impact these events have on entire communities.
