Morgan County, AL (December 19, 2024) – An injury multi-vehicle crash occurred on Wednesday evening in Morgan County, causing significant traffic delays on the northbound lanes of Interstate 65. The incident, reported by the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), took place just inside Morgan County, near the Tennessee River Bridge.
According to the MCSO, the wreck occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. and involved several vehicles, including an 18-wheeler. As a result of the collision, traffic was backed up past the Priceville exit. Emergency responders, including fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to assist with the situation. The fire department was involved in the extraction of vehicles and clearing the debris from the roadway.
An air evacuation was also performed at the scene, as one individual sustained serious injuries. The injured party was transported to the hospital by helicopter. Authorities confirmed that the 18-wheeler involved in the accident was leaking diesel fuel, which added complexity to the cleanup efforts. The MCSO spokesperson, Mike Swafford, emphasized the need for caution as hazardous materials were being handled on-site.
At this time, all lanes have reopened, and traffic flow has been restored. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
