Car Accidents in Alabama

Huntsville, AL - Two Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash on I-565 near Hwy 20 Vehicle accidents in Alabama remain a significant concern, with thousands of residents injured each year. In recent years, the Alabama Department of Transportation has recorded over 900 crashes per day on average. Many of these accidents occur at intersections or on busy highways, and they often lead to serious medical issues for those involved. With that in mind, victims need to be aware of the kinds of injuries and long-term effects that can follow a crash.

When it comes to car accidents, understanding the causes can help people stay safer on the road. Here are several common factors that lead to crashes:

  • Distracted Driving: Using phones, eating, or adjusting vehicle controls while driving continues to be one of the most common causes of accidents. Even a moment of inattention can result in a serious collision. Drivers should always remain focused, especially in high-traffic areas or on interstates.
  • Speeding: Driving above the posted limit gives drivers less time to react and increases the severity of injuries in a crash. It remains a leading cause of fatal and injury-causing collisions across the state. Slowing down, particularly in work zones and congested stretches of road, can make a meaningful difference.
  • Failure to Yield: Accidents often happen when a driver does not properly yield at an intersection, merge point, or when making a turn. This can result in side-impact or head-on crashes. Staying alert and cautious when navigating traffic signs and signals is critical.
  • Driving Under the Influence: Impaired driving affects judgment, coordination, and reaction times. Alabama law enforcement continues to combat drunk and drugged driving with checkpoints and stricter enforcement. Still, too many injuries occur as a result of impaired drivers.
  • Following Too Closely: Tailgating is a frequent cause of rear-end collisions, especially in stop-and-go traffic. Maintaining a safe following distance can help prevent sudden impact injuries and costly damage.
