Marengo County, AL (January 8, 2026) – Two people died, and five others were injured following a serious crash on Tuesday evening in Marengo County. The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, along US 80, about five miles west of Uniontown.

Authorities reported that two vehicles crashed head-on along the highway. One of the drivers was identified as 75-year-old Authur L. Mendenhall of Pine Hill. The second driver was a 16-year-old from Faunsdale. Both drivers were pronounced dead as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

Four passengers riding in Mendenhall’s vehicle were also hurt. That group included two young children, ages five and three. Emergency units arrived at the scene and took all four injured passengers to a nearby hospital for medical care.

A passenger riding with the teenage driver was also injured. Officials said the 17-year-old passenger suffered injuries and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment. The current condition of the injured passengers has not been released.

The crash took place on a stretch of US 80 frequently traveled by local drivers. Investigators have not shared what led to the head-on crash or whether any factors contributed to the incident.
