Washington County, AL (October 7, 2025) – A teenage girl tragically lost her life and another person was injured following a head-on collision on Tuesday, October 7, in Washington County.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. on Highway 17 near Baxter Godwin Road. Authorities said the 17-year-old victim, a student at Washington County High School, was driving north when her pickup truck collided head-on with an 18-wheeler traveling south.
Deputy Tim Landrum reported that bystanders helped the truck driver out of the cab before first responders arrived. Emergency crews provided aid at the scene and transported the truck driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials confirmed that the teenage driver died at the scene due to the severity of her injuries.
Landrum described the wreckage as one of the worst he had seen in over four decades of law enforcement, saying the vehicle was unrecognizable. He added that the victim’s father arrived at the site to say goodbye to his daughter, calling it a heartbreaking reminder of life’s fragility.
Counselors were brought to Washington County High School to support grieving students and staff. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues to investigate the cause of the crash and to determine which factors contributed to the collision.
