Lee Co, AL (August 13, 2025) – A 28-year-old woman tragically lost her life in a three-vehicle collision on Tuesday night, August 12, on Interstate 85 in Lee County. The crash occurred around 11:39 p.m. in the southbound lanes near exit 57.
According to Opelika Police Department, the incident began when a Honda passenger car struck a metal mattress spring left on the interstate. The spring reportedly sparked after the impact. As the Honda driver attempted to remove the mattress spring, a semi-truck stopped nearby in the roadway. Moments later, a Kia SUV collided with the back of the semi.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released her name.
