Mobile, AL (July 11, 2025) – A woman from Semmes lost her life in a hit-and-run crash that occurred late Friday night, July 11, on Lott Road.
According to Alabama State Troopers, 62-year-old Devi Weems was struck by a vehicle around 11 p.m. The driver, identified as William Wilson, reportedly fled the scene after hitting Weems. Sadly, she died from her injuries.
Authorities said a witness followed Wilson to his home. Deputies from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office later arrested him. He is now facing three charges, including leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, possession of a controlled substance, and second-degree possession of marijuana.
Investigators returned to the scene on Saturday to map the area using a drone. Weems’ boyfriend told reporters that he was with her at the time. He said she had exited the vehicle and was hit as he was driving away.
Court records show Wilson appeared in court and pleaded not guilty to all charges. He has since been released on bond.
The case remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA).
