Mobile, AL (July 3, 2025) – Two teenage girls tragically lost their lives early Wednesday morning, July 2, after being struck by a car in Mobile County.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) confirmed the crash happened around 1:20 a.m. on Airport Blvd near Trailwood Blvd, about a mile west of Mobile. The two victims, ages 15 and 16, were walking in the roadway when a vehicle hit them. They died at the scene from their injuries.
Family members later identified one of the girls as 16-year-old TyKerriya Overstreet. Relatives described her and the other girl, her best friend, as inseparable and full of life. Both families are grieving and demanding answers, claiming they were not contacted by officials and only heard about the crash hours later through word of mouth.
Overstreet’s aunt, Takea Simmons, said the girls were walking to a nearby store in a neighborhood with little traffic control—no stop signs or caution lights. She also expressed frustration over the lack of official communication and vowed the family would pursue justice.
ALEA stated that the vehicle involved and the driver were identified but have not released their names. So far, no charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the families of these young victims as they navigate this heartbreaking loss.
