Marion County, AL (December 1, 2024) – A fatal SUV crash occurred on Friday afternoon in Marion County, resulting in the death of a Texas woman. The incident took place around 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 22, approximately one mile west of Hamilton, when a 2016 BMW X4 driven by Eboni Johnson, 33, of Atlanta, collided head-on with a 2014 GMC Yukon driven by Shelly Coleman, 69, of Laneville, Texas.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Coleman was critically injured in the crash and was immediately transported by ambulance to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System hospital. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries the following day. A 16-year-old passenger in the BMW was also injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Emergency responders, including the Marion County Fire Department, worked quickly to extract the vehicles from the scene. Authorities managed the traffic flow and controlled the situation to ensure the safety of the public while the investigation took place. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues to investigate the cause of the collision.
