Limestone Co, AL (December 13, 2024) – A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on Friday evening on I-65 southbound near the 342-mile marker in Limestone County, claiming the lives of two individuals. The collision, which involved a U-Haul, a car, and a pickup truck towing a trailer, took place around 5:30 p.m., according to Limestone County Coroner Mike West.

Authorities reported that the car hit the pickup truck, triggering a chain reaction that led to the U-Haul hitting the automobile. The impact caused the autoto catch fire, and both the driver and the passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported from those in the U-Haul or the pickup truck.

First responders from the Limestone County Fire Department quickly arrived to extinguish the fire and assist in vehicle extraction. Ambulances transported the deceased to a nearby hospital, where the cause of death was confirmed as trauma sustained in the crash.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) and local authorities closed the southbound lanes of I-65 for several hours while the scene was cleared and the investigation continued. Traffic was diverted, causing delays for motorists.
