Tuscaloosa Co, AL (November 24, 2024) – A fatal car crash occurred on Saturday, November 23, claiming the life of an 80-year-old woman from Childersburg. The collision happened at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Highway 171, around 16 miles north of Tuscaloosa.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the crash involved a head-on collision between a 2024 Nissan Rogue and a 2006 Ford F-150. Barbara J. Kornegay, a passenger in the Nissan Rogue, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. Two other occupants of the Nissan—81-year-old Frederick Kornegay, also of Childersburg, and 87-year-old Anne N. Churchwell of Sylacauga—sustained injuries and were transported by ambulance to DCH Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The Ford F-150 was driven by 71-year-old James M. Hollingsworth of Kennedy, who was evaluated on-site but declined further medical attention.
Emergency services, including Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue, were dispatched to assist with extricating individuals from the vehicles and to secure the crash site. ALEA troopers controlled traffic in the area, working to investigate the incident while minimizing disruptions. The roadway was cleared and reopened to traffic by 6:00 p.m.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Barbara J. Kornegay during this grieving time. May they find strength and support as they mourn their loss.
