Cowarts, AL (October 6, 2024) – An injury pedestrian crash occurred this afternoon when a pedestrian was struck by a car at the intersection of Highway 84 East and Forrester Road. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene at approximately 12:35 PM, including Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Ashford Rescue, and Cowarts Volunteer Fire.

Houston County Sheriff Sgt. McKinney was the first to arrive on the scene and reported that the incident was a hit-and-run. The car involved was last seen traveling eastbound on HWY 84, identified as a charcoal gray Tahoe.

Cowarts Volunteer Fire reported that a subject was lying in the roadway and appeared to be injured. Fortunately, Ashford Rescue was nearing the scene, and the pedestrian was conscious and talking when they arrived. Emergency personnel quickly assessed the situation and provided medical care before transporting the injured individual to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

At 12:38 PM, a citizen called Houston County 911, stating they were following the suspect vehicle on Edgar Smith Rd. The vehicle was reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed and made a left turn onto Rainbow Rd.

By 12:40 PM, the citizen lost visual contact with the suspect car. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Houston County Sheriff Deputies, Ashford Police, Cottonwood Police, and ALEA Troopers, began an aggressive search for the suspect car, controlling traffic and ensuring public safety at the scene.

The investigation of the accident is being handled by ALEA Troopers, who are working diligently to gather evidence and locate the driver responsible for this incident.
