Athens, AL – Pedestrian Dies in Collision at New Cut & Zehner Rd

Athens, AL (March 7, 2024) – On Monday night, March 4, a pedestrian was killed after a vehicle collision in the Athens area. The fatal crash occurred at the corner of New Cut Road and Zehner Road at around 7 p.m. that evening. Local reports indicated that two vehicles were involved in a crash, and one of the cars involved hit a nearby pedestrian. 

It was later revealed that 69-year-old Ronald Anderson of Athens was hit by a 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe at the scene. Anderson sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead by responding medical personnel. Before the incident, Anderson had reportedly exited a vehicle to work on a trailer that had been detached. 

The area was temporarily closed while emergency crews were present. No further information on the deadly accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the fatal crash is in the hands of local law enforcement officials.
