According to ALEA, 88-year-old Betty C. Benefield was a passenger in a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado when the vehicle collided head-on with a 1997 Mack truck. After the initial impact, the Chevrolet was struck by a 2021 Ram 1500. Benefield was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet, an 88-year-old man from Holly Pond, was injured and transported to UAB Hospital for treatment. Emergency medical services (EMS) responded promptly to the scene, providing immediate care and ensuring the safe transport of the injured. Firefighters assisted in the extraction of the vehicles from the crash site.
