Fatal Car Accidents in Alabama

Mobile Co., AL – Two Killed, One Injured in Crash on W Coy Smith Hwy Alabama experiences thousands of fatal car accidents each year, with many occurring on rural highways. The Alabama Department of Transportation reports that in recent years, the state has averaged over 900 traffic-related deaths annually. Many of these collisions involve high speeds, limited visibility, and dangerous road conditions, all of which can contribute to serious or fatal crashes.

Several factors commonly contribute to deadly accidents, including:

  • Speeding – Driving above the speed limit or too fast for road conditions reduces reaction time and increases the impact force in crashes, making injuries more severe.
  • Nighttime Driving Risks – Reduced visibility, driver fatigue, and impaired motorists make early morning and nighttime driving particularly dangerous.
  • Rural Road Conditions – Many accidents happen on rural highways, where narrow roads, sharp curves, and limited lighting can make collisions more likely.
  • Failure to Wear Seatbelts – A significant number of fatal crashes involve occupants who were not wearing seatbelts. Proper use of seatbelts can greatly reduce the risk of severe injuries.
