Butler Co, AL (January 27, 2025) – A fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on January 27 on Interstate 65 in Butler County, resulting in the death of one man. The incident, reported by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), took place around noon when several vehicles were involved, including a Chevrolet Silverado, a Ford Mustang, and two tractor-trailers.
According to the ALEA, 34-year-old Thaddeus Richardson Jr. of Montgomery was seated in a Ford Mustang that had come to a stop after a previous crash. The Mustang’s driver’s side door was open when a Chevrolet Silverado struck the car, ejecting Richardson. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Before the collision between the Silverado and Mustang, a Kenworth tractor-trailer rear-ended the Silverado, causing a chain reaction. The Kenworth then hit a Freightliner tractor-trailer, followed by a Chevrolet Tahoe that struck the rear of the Kenworth.
Emergency responders, including ambulances and fire crews, swiftly arrived to manage the aftermath. Firefighters assisted in extricating individuals from the wreckage. Authorities worked to control traffic and clear the scene, which caused significant delays. The injured were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the scene was secured by troopers from the ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division, who are continuing to investigate the crashes.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Thaddeus Richardson Jr. during this difficult time.
