Hueytown, AL (November 9, 2024) – A deadly head-on car crash occurred Wednesday evening in Hueytown, resulting in the death of one individual and critically injuring another. The tragic incident took place at approximately 7:58 p.m. in the 100 block of Brooklane Dr. and has left the local community reeling. The Hueytown Police Department confirmed that a pickup truck and a Mercedes sedan collided head-on, leading to the fatality of one driver and the serious injury of another.

According to the Hueytown Police Department, 25-year-old Neil Damian Sayers of Hueytown was driving the pickup truck when he crossed over into oncoming traffic. The truck collided directly with a Mercedes sedan driven by a 66-year-old woman, whose identity has not yet been released. Sayers, who was driving the pickup, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders at 8:31 p.m.

The woman in the Mercedes was critically injured in the crash and was immediately transported by ambulance to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where she is receiving urgent medical care. At this time, her condition remains critical, and her family has been notified.

Authorities have confirmed that the cause of the crash is still under investigation. Hueytown Fire & Rescue teams were on the scene to assist in the extrication of the injured woman from her vehicle. Firefighters used specialized equipment to safely remove her from the wreckage, allowing paramedics to provide immediate medical care.
